HOW TO SET UP "SPAM ASSASSIN"

SpamAssassin Mode

There are 2 modes, Filter and Delete. Filter will move the mail that SpamAssassin thinks is Spam to a location for storage and eventual deletion; Delete will simply delete messages that SpamAssassin thinks is Spam.

Required Points

SpamAssassin assigns mail to a point-based system - the more points an email gets, the more likely it is Spam. Here, you define the threshold of what SpamAssassin will ultimately call Spam.

Report

The report simply tells you the outcome of the point-based tests – in other words, why SpamAssassin thinks the message is Spam. You can choose to record these reports in different ways.

Bayesian Filtering

This filter allows you to train SpamAssassin to help determine what is Spam. You will need to create 2 folders in your inbox – “Spam” and “Ham”. In the “Spam” folder, you should move any messages that you think is Spam. In the “Ham” folder, you should copy messages that are NOT Spam. Once there, you should leave the messages there for at least 6 months. This will give the Filter time to learn from the set of messages. As SpamAssassin is running day-to-day, if it does not catch a Spam email, you should continue to move it into the “Spam” folder, so that it learns in the future.

Network Tests

Using this feature will send the message through an online database to see if it matches well-known Spam qualifications.

Language

This is just the set of languages that you receive email in. If you get an email in a language other than the ones you select here, SpamAssassin will mark the email as Spam.

Add Rule

This is where you can add your own special rules.
